Newly-graduated Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers march during a graduation ceremony at the Afghan National Army training centre in Kabul on September 25, 2008. The number of soldiers in the US-supported army has grown to more than 80,000 and the country is working towards having a force of 134,000 in four years. The Afghan army, destroyed during the civil war of the 1990s which was then followed by the 1996-2001 rule of the Taliban, is being trained and equipped with international help, mainly from the United States.
